In a major step forward for student learning support, the Louisiana Department of Education has established a powerful initiative to provide high-dosage tutoring (HDT) during the school day for eligible elementary students. Under Act 771 (2024) and through ongoing state appropriations, the program is designed to deliver intensive, small-group or one-on-four tutoring for students who are behind in reading or math.
The Accelerate: High-Dosage Tutoring program offers a clear framework and funding pathway for elementary schools to accelerate student progress:
The law mandates that eligible K–5 students below proficiency receive expanded academic support including HDT. (Read Act 771)
Sessions take place during the school day, last approximately 30 minutes, and occur at least three times per week.
Initial funding of about $30 million was allocated in the 2024-25 timeframe to support the initiative statewide.
The program is part of the larger Louisiana Tutoring Initiative, which also includes the Steve Carter Tutoring Program offering vouchers ($1,000-$1,500) for families to access high-quality tutoring outside of school hours.
For school and district leaders in Louisiana, this represents a meaningful opportunity to bolster Tier-2 and Tier-3 supports, pursue funding, align with state requirements, and drive measurable student growth.
At Studient, our suite of solutions is well-aligned to support school systems in Louisiana as they act on this opportunity. We assist with:
Identifying funding sources and state-approved frameworks tied to high-dosage tutoring.
Designing effective small-group tutoring interventions aligned to the Accelerate HDT model (consistent tutor, small size, embedded in the school day).
Implementing data-driven tracking to measure student growth and demonstrate outcomes.
Building sustainable models that meet state guidelines while maximizing impact for students who need the support most.
If your school or district is exploring how to plug into Louisiana’s high-dosage tutoring funding, design a program aligned with the law’s parameters, or scale your tutoring strategy this year, we’d love to connect.
