In an important and encouraging step toward addressing learning loss, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has formally committed significant resources to expand high-dosage tutoring for students who need it most.
Under a September 2025 legal settlement, LAUSD will provide at least 45 hours of high-dosage tutoring each school year to more than 100,000 students across the next three years (2025–26 through 2027–28). The program will prioritize English Learners, students with disabilities, foster youth, and those experiencing homelessness—ensuring equitable access to intensive, personalized academic support.
This initiative doesn’t just represent a district-wide win for Los Angeles. It signals a broader opportunity for schools across California to leverage similar funding streams—including state and federal Learning Recovery dollars—to provide small-group and one-on-one tutoring that accelerates student progress.
LAUSD’s High-Dose Tutoring Program offers a strong framework:
Small, stable cohorts of students
In-person and virtual delivery models
A focus on increasing duration, frequency, and intensity of instruction
Educators and administrators can review the official district program overview and eligibility guidelines directly through LAUSD:
For California districts seeking to secure or implement similar funding, Studient’s Motivention™ solution supports scalable, outcomes-based tutoring models that align with state and federal guidelines. Our team partners with school systems to help:
Identify and apply for available funding
Design effective Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports built around high-dosage principles
Measure impact using real-time learning data to ensure accountability and results
